What still works with no internet

iOSAndroid

Your GOAT device does its real work right on the boat, so losing internet doesn't stop the monitoring. Here's what keeps running when you're completely offline.

How it works

With zero internet, on the boat:

  • Your instruments show live readings in the app whenever your phone is on the boat's WiFi. This needs no internet at all; see How the app connects.
  • The anchor watch keeps running on your phone over the boat's WiFi, and its alarm sounds on the phone.
  • Your GOAT device keeps checking your alarms and keeps recording your voyage and track.
  • The anchor page on your chartplotter keeps working over the boat's own network, and your phones on the boat Wi-Fi pick up a watch set there. See Anchor watch on your chartplotter.

When a connection returns, the device forwards everything it queued up, including voyage data and readings, so nothing is lost, just delayed.

Anchor watch with no internet

If your phone loses the boat while there's no internet, you get the loud Lost contact with the boat alarm, never the quiet "no signal" notice. With no internet, nothing can confirm your GOAT device is still watching, so the app treats it as a real loss. See How drag detection works.

Warning: Getting an alert on a phone that's away from the boat needs internet on both ends: the boat's and your phone's. With no internet, a notification can't reach a phone that's elsewhere until the link is back. See Alert types and how they reach you.

Note: "Offline" is different from offshore mode, which is a data-saver you switch on while you still have an expensive connection. See Offshore mode.
