Alert types and how they reach you

iOSAndroidSafety

Safety-critical

This affects a safety feature. Read carefully and confirm the behavior on your own boat.

SV.GOAT alarms cover safety and monitoring events: anchor drag, high wind, low battery, low tank and any card alarms you've set. How they reach you depends on where you are.

How alarms reach you

  1. On the phone running the watch. The app sounds its own alarm and shows an alert banner. This needs no internet at all.
  2. When you're away. Your GOAT device watches the boat around the clock and can send a push notification to your phone. Away alerts need internet at both ends: the boat online and your phone online.
  3. Owner only. Pushes from the GOAT device go to the boat's owner. Guests on a shared boat don't receive them.

Anchor watch notices

If your phone and the boat lose touch during an anchor watch, you may see one of these:

  • [Boat name] — no signal to the boat (quiet). Your phone lost its link to the boat and your GOAT device is still watching. It has two buttons: Quiet till back in signal and Keep telling me.
  • [Boat name] has lost its internet (one standard notification). The boat can't reach the internet, so alarms can't reach you until it's back. If the GOAT device hasn't reported for over 30 minutes, the same notice also comes from the server.
  • [Boat name] — back in touch (quiet, once per gap). Your phone can see the boat again. If the boat is outside the radius, the notice says so and plays a sound.
  • Lost contact with the boat, Boat GPS lost or Phone GPS lost (loud). These are used whenever the app can't be sure the boat is still being watched.

See How drag detection works for when each one is used.

Choosing what you're notified about

In Settings → Notifications you choose which notifications reach this phone, and you can customize some of them per boat. See Choose which alerts you get.

Warning: [Boat name] has lost its internet is a standard notification. It does not break through Do Not Disturb or Focus, so you may not hear it on a silenced phone.

Note: In Offshore mode the boat checks in less often to save satellite data, so away pushes may be delayed. The server's 30-minute has lost its internet notice isn't sent while offshore mode is on. The anchor watch on your phone keeps running.
