Set the anchor alarm
Safety-critical
This affects a safety feature. Read carefully and confirm the behavior on your own boat.
Arm the anchor watch when you drop the hook. It watches your position and sounds a loud alarm on your phone if your anchor starts to drag. It needs no internet.
Steps
- Open Anchor Watch: tap the Anchor card on the General tab, or the anchor button on the Position Map.
- Place the anchor over the spot where it lies on the seabed. Tap DROP to drop it at your boat's position, then tap or drag the anchor on the map to fine-tune it.
- On the Radius tab, set the Alarm Radius slider (20–100 m). This is how far your boat may swing before the alarm sounds.
- Tap SET to arm the watch.
- Want to start over? Tap RE-DROP to place the anchor at your boat again, then SET.
Warning: DROP and SET stay greyed out, showing "Waiting for GPS…", until there is a live position. This is deliberate: arming on a stale or missing fix could put the anchor in the wrong place.
While the watch is armed
- The alarm. If your boat drags outside the radius, your phone sounds a loud alarm and shows "[Boat name] is dragging" with the distance from the anchor and the radius. When the boat reports wind, the alarm shows that too.
- Your GOAT device. Once the watch has reached your GOAT device, the device watches the boat as well and can send the alarm to your phone when you're away. Pushes from the GOAT device go to the boat's owner.
- Change the radius. Move the Alarm Radius slider at any time to set a new radius. You can also tap +5 m, +10 m or +15 m on the drag alarm, or Increase radius in the app. Those increases are limited each night, so a dragging anchor can't be hidden by making the radius bigger and bigger. Only the steps that can still be used are offered.
- Lock screen. A quiet Anchor watch entry shows the watch, for example Watching · radius 40 m. It changes only when something changes, such as the boat moving near the edge. To hide it, turn off Settings → Notifications → Lock screen → Anchor watch on lock screen. Alarms still come through.
- Stop alerts on this phone. This button sits just above RAISE ANCHOR. It silences this phone only; the boat stays armed. See Stop the anchor alarm.
Note: Once armed, the anchor is locked in place: tapping the map won't move it. To move it, tap RAISE ANCHOR to end the watch, then set it again.
Set it from the chartplotter
With a GOAT device, you can also drop, set and raise the anchor from a B&G, Simrad or Lowrance chartplotter. A watch set there is picked up by the owner's phones on the boat Wi-Fi. See Anchor watch on your chartplotter.
