Set up a new GOAT device

Setting up a new GOAT device pairs it to your account and your boat. This is done entirely in the app — you can't set up a device from the web dashboard.
Steps
- Owner only. Open Settings → GOAT Device → Setup New Device (setup also starts automatically the first time you sign in or from an empty boat list). Start this while your phone still has internet — you pick or create the boat first, and the app registers the pairing while it's online.
- Turn on Location — the app needs it to find and join the device's WiFi hotspot.
- Tap Scan for Device Hotspots (on iOS, Connect to Device) and join SVGOAT-XXXX (the last 4 characters are unique to your device). The app supplies the hotspot password automatically — you don't type it here.
- Choose your boat's WiFi network and enter its password. No boat WiFi? Tick Use Direct Connect Mode instead.
- Review the summary and tap Complete Setup. The device joins WiFi, registers itself, and the app waits for it to come online.
Warning: A wrong boat-WiFi password usually shows up only as a Timeout at the very end — the device can't report a bad password because it never gets online. If setup times out, run it again and re-enter the password carefully.
Note: Device setup is app-only. The web dashboard can't set up or pair a device.
