Reading a card: numbers, dashes, and greyed-out cards
iOSAndroid
Each card shows one reading from your boat. The way a card looks tells you whether the data is live, missing, or the instrument isn't there at all.
How to read it
- A number (including 0) — live data. A reading of 0 is real (for example a solar controller at night puts out 0 W), so the card stays fully visible.
- Dashes ( -- ) — the instrument exists and the reading is expected, but no value has come through yet. Give it a moment, or check that the instrument is powered.
- Greyed out — the app hasn't detected the instrument that feeds this card. Tapping a greyed card opens Sensor Required, which names the instrument you'd need (for example "True Wind Angle" requires a Wind Instrument connected to your NMEA2000 network.). It also offers a Get This Sensor link to a recommended vendor.
Note: A card only appears once its data source has been seen at least once — so a brand-new boat may show fewer cards until your instruments have all reported in.
If everything is greyed out
That usually means the app finished checking and found no instruments — typically the boat's connection dropped. Check that your GOAT device is online and reachable, then pull down to refresh.
