Map & tracking offshore
iOSAndroid
Offshore mode saves satellite data by having your GOAT device check in less often — it is not offline, and it does not stop recording.
How it works
- Voyages keep recording. Your track is logged on the boat the whole time you're offshore.
- Sync catches up later. Tracks and voyages upload when you're back in normal coverage, so the map fills in after the passage.
- It's a data saver, not a shutdown. In offshore mode the app polls the boat about every 5 minutes instead of every few seconds, and pauses cloud uploads (telemetry and voyage sync) to protect your satellite budget. Those uploads resume automatically when you turn offshore mode off.
- Safety still works. Anchor and other alarms still sound locally on the boat with no internet at all.
Note: While offshore, the app and web dashboard may show your last-known position until the next check-in. This is expected — the newest track appears once the device is back on a normal connection.
