Storm prediction & weather alarms
The storm engine watches your boat's barometric pressure and wind trends to predict storms forming — and it keeps working with no internet. It reads your boat's sensors through your GOAT device.
Steps
- Open Weather Alarms from the More menu.
- Turn on the Storm Alarm to be alerted on this phone when a storm is predicted. It uses your boat's barometer and air-temperature sensors. If your boat doesn't have both, the switch is greyed out and says so.
- Tap the refresh icon any time to re-run the prediction.
Warning: The Storm Alarm runs on this phone only. It is not saved to your account and your GOAT device does not check it. Another phone, a reinstall or anyone you share the boat with won't have it, so turn it on again on each phone that should alert you.
Note: Storm prediction runs offline from your own sensors — the GRIB forecast is only extra enrichment, never required. This is why it still protects you offshore where the forecast can't download.
Note: Storm prediction is driven mainly by your boat's barometric pressure, with wind and temperature refining it. Until it has built up enough recent pressure history it shows an "insufficient data" state rather than a false prediction — and it still runs its absolute-danger safety checks in the meantime.
